Farmers across Turkey need high-quality fertilizers to ensure the healthy growth of their crops. Fertilizers contain the essential nutrients required for plant development and are commonly used to increase agricultural productivity. Fertilizer factories are the facilities where these fertilizers are produced. As one of the fundamental elements of the agricultural sector, fertilizer factories play a crucial role in meeting this need.
With its robust infrastructure and modern technology, İGSAŞ has been contributing to Turkish agriculture for many years through its advanced fertilizer factories. In this article, we will discuss the establishment processes, production capacities, and the value İGSAŞ’s fertilizer factories bring to the industry.
The Establishment Process of İGSAŞ Fertilizer Factories
İGSAŞ, a key player in Turkey's fertilizer production, has grown over the years to become one of the country's largest fertilizer producers. Established in 1971, İGSAŞ has been delivering its products to every corner of Turkey where agriculture is practiced. In 2004, İGSAŞ became part of Yıldızlar Yatırım Holding through privatization. Along with İGSAŞ, the Kütahya Nitrogen Plant was acquired, and a depot in Samsun became operational in the same year. By 2008, the Kütahya Dilute Nitric Acid Plant deNOx unit was established, and a depot in İzmir Aliağa also started operations. In the following years, new facilities were built, modernization efforts were carried out, and capacities were increased through continued investments.
In 2016, a depot in Antalya was opened, followed by a depot in Tekirdağ in 2017. The investment in the Antalya Special Fertilizer Facility was also completed. Construction of the Samsun Facility, which began in 2021, was completed in 2024, and production commenced.
İGSAŞ continues its investments in many cities, primarily Kocaeli, Kütahya, Samsun, Antalya, and Hatay. İGSAŞ’s fertilizer factories, known for their high production capacities, produce on large scales and supply fertilizers to farmers across Turkey.
Beyond serving the domestic market, İGSAŞ also exports fertilizers, contributing to Turkey’s international presence. İGSAŞ’s role in fertilizer production helps boost the productivity of agricultural producers nationwide and shapes the future of agriculture.
Types of Fertilizers Produced in Factories
İGSAŞ produces various fertilizers, including urea, ammonia, compound fertilizers, and many other types that Turkish farmers require. The company continues to expand its operations to increase its market share and strengthen its position among Turkey’s largest industrial enterprises.
